Thyroid Disorders

Thyroid Disorders

The thyroid gland helps to control our metabolism. The thyroid gland sits at the base of our neck and produces the thyroid hormone thyroxine. The main forms or thyroxine are known as T4 and T3.

Thyroid hormones are necessary for the cells in our body to work correctly. Our body needs just the right amount of thyroxine in every cell of our body, every second of every day!

Sometimes things go wrong and the thyroid gland starts to become overactive (working too fast) or most commonly underactive (working too slowly). This can be caused by an autoimmune disease or it can be unrelated to the immune system.

An underactive thyroid can lead to weight gain, tiredness, dry skin, feelings of being cold, constipation, depression, hormone imbalance and memory problems.

Nutritional Therapy may help support your body naturally and could increase the effectiveness of your thyroid medication.

Grave’s disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis are both autoimmune thyroid conditions. Nutritional therapy may help unlock any food triggers that could be affecting your symptoms.
