A Healthier Twist on the English Breakfast
A fry up is not usually the best way to start the day and should still be seen as a treat, but it can be a good example of how to balance your plate, even when you are choosing a more indulgent meal. This version is higher in vegetables and healthy fats, helping you stay fuller for longer without feeling heavy or sluggish.
The key with most meals is proportion. You can enjoy a couple of fried eggs and some good quality, nitrate free bacon, as long as you also add fibre and colour to your plate.
This meal helps offset some of the saturated fat from the bacon by including healthier monounsaturated fats, while the vegetables add a wide range of nutrients and antioxidants. Cruciferous vegetables such as kale and rocket are particularly supportive of liver health and contain compounds called glucosinolates, which help support the body’s natural detoxification processes.
